Le \u00ab Ma\u00eetre de Martigues \u00bb inaugure par cet \u00e9crit son \u00e9pist\u00e9mologie propre, appel\u00e9e \u00ab empirisme organisateur \u00bb, qui se veut la fusion de deux traditions diff\u00e9rentes, que l\u2019on pourrait m\u00eame dans une certaine mesure consid\u00e9rer comme diam\u00e9tralement oppos\u00e9es, le positivisme et l\u2019\u00e9cole contre-r\u00e9volutionnaire. Dans ces trois id\u00e9es, Chateaubriand repr\u00e9sente la th\u00e8se, Michelet l\u2019antith\u00e8se et Sainte-Beuve la synth\u00e8se ; c\u2019est donc une apologie de ce dernier contre les impasses que constituent la pens\u00e9e des deux autres, celle du premier n\u2019\u00e9tant que tourn\u00e9e vers le pass\u00e9 et celle du deuxi\u00e8me que vers le futur. Dit autrement via la m\u00e9thode classique grecque l\u2019\u0153uvre de Sainte-Beuve est \u00e9rig\u00e9e par le fondateur de l\u2019Action fran\u00e7aise en d\u00e9passement de ces deux inepties que sont le pass\u00e9isme (Chateaubriand) et le progressisme (Michelet).<\/p>\n
