Celleci provoqua un certain tumulte dans les milieux litt\u00e9raires, ainsi qu\u2019au sein de la classe politique : P\u00e9guy le socialiste, le dreyfusard, avait-il tourn\u00e9 casaque, s\u2019\u00e9tait-il\u00a0converti\u00a0? Mais converti \u00e0 quoi ? Au catholicisme ? Ou au patriotisme ?
\nGeorges Sorel, figure du syndicalisme-r\u00e9volutionnaire, soutint que P\u00e9guy y \u00ab revendiquait pour les id\u00e9es patriotiques le droit de diriger la pens\u00e9e contemporaine. \u00bb Georges Valois, qui rapporta ces propos dans\u00a0L\u2019Action fran\u00e7aise<\/em>\u00a0du 10 juin 1910, pr\u00e9senta aussi le\u00a0Myst\u00e8re\u00a0comme une ode au patriotisme : \u00ab Nous y avons vu briller la pure flamme du vrai patriotisme fran\u00e7ais, prot\u00e9g\u00e9e, aliment\u00e9e par les vertus de la foi qui est celle de la Fille a\u00een\u00e9e de l\u2019\u00c9glise. Nous y avons vu l\u2019id\u00e9alisme de P\u00e9guy rendu \u00e0 son objet, le bienfait de son mysticisme restitu\u00e9 \u00e0 la M\u00e8re qui l\u2019a fait na\u00eetre en lui au temps de son enfance, \u00e0 Orl\u00e9ans. \u00bb Sans doute aux deux ; en t\u00e9moigne la mani\u00e8re dont le pape Beno\u00eet XVI a comment\u00e9 l\u2019\u0153uvre suite \u00e0 sa repr\u00e9sentation au Palais apostolique de Castelgandolfo le samedi 19 ao\u00fbt 2006 : \u00ab Dans ce texte d\u2019une grande richesse, P\u00e9guy a su rendre avec force le cri que Jeanne fait monter vers Dieu avec passion, l\u2019adjurant de faire cesser la mis\u00e8re et la souffrance qu\u2019elle voit autour d\u2019elle, exprimant ainsi l\u2019inqui\u00e9tude de l\u2019homme et sa recherche du bonheur \u00bb. Sans omettre de souligner l\u2019actualit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u0153uvre, qui selon lui \u00ab demeure une source de r\u00e9flexion tr\u00e8s profitable \u00bb.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
